Maasai Tribe

Today for inquiry we were learning about how the Maasai tribe live.  The Maasai
tribe is a lot different from other country's that I've learnt about. Here is a presentation
that I have created showing the information about the Maasai Tribe.

2015 Relection

How do you feel about this year? In the beginning of 2015 I was in Room 3, I was nervous because I would be in a class mixed with Yr 8 students. I was also nervous about my friends and I getting split up in different classes for the first time. I was also nervous about being noticed by the whole team 5 block.

What did you especially satisfying this year? What I was happy about was starting a new year off with making new friends, improving my learning, playing sports with new teammates, getting to know teacher, being a leader to the school, and improving my life. We will be attending Tamaki College every Thursday for technology, and that we will be  attending many events such as ASB Poly-fest, Yr 7  Rainbows End trip, Malama honua, Parakai, Manaiakalani film festival and many more.

c.What did you find especially frustrating/difficult this year? Something frustrating  and difficult this year for me would be losing games for sports, and the most difficult thing was waking up early for school by 8:30am.  What was challenging for me the most was organizing myself for learning even though I don’t want to learn I always think of what I would be in the future.

d. If you were to to give yourself a grade out of 10 - 10 being awesome…what would

you grade yourself? Why?  9-10 because I've only missed 1 day of school this year, and even though I didn't make it to some teams I have never gave up to things that I was struggling with, and I've improved so many things this year

                  

e. In what ways did you contribute to team 5 in 2015? Something that I have helped team 5 with was fundraising for our trips for 2015. The trip that I have been wanting to go to is Parakai where we can have fun with my friends, that is the trip that I have been fundraising the most.

f. What would you change for yourself in 2016? What I would change for myself in 2016 is making the right choices for what I say, where I go, and what I should do. What I would also change for myself is being a leader and leading other around the school.

g. What might you want next year’s teacher to know about you (things you’re good at)? I would want my teacher to know that I am pretty good at sports. I would also want my teacher to know where I come from and my age.  To know that I have a lot of friends.

h. What things might you want more help with?  I don’t need any help with other things but just reading because I am not really  a comfortable reader  , writing because I need to put more details and correct my writing, and maths because I need to improve more work. I would also need help with making the right choices for myself and leading the school in 2016.

i. What could you show your teacher from your blog to help her/him understand those things? What we have learnt at school, and that each and one of us has a blog each that we can post what we have learnt with our teacher throughout the week.  When we post a blog post, visitors can go on our blog and post a comment to show that they are interested with what we've learnt.

Google Expedition

As I walked down to the floor, I was unclear about what we were about to do with the card-boards sitting on the tables. All I know is that we will be looking inside it, I was expecting to see nothing inside. After getting our own google cardboard, Mr Clark was talking about how the Google Cardboard works and what we will be doing.

When Mr Clark told us to put it on, I was so amazed of what I saw, I was in a rainforest and it felt like I was actually there. Right beside me was a big praying mantis, I heard loud voices from my friends that was next to me. Then suddenly I saw blank on my screen, it was paused by Mr Clark, we had to stop and listen to him about information.  

After looking at many places, all I wanted was to be in space, but we had to wait. Finally it was our last visit and we were in space, I saw the earth and it showed the map of Africa, the sun and the moon was there and there were heaps of stars in different colours. It was my favourite part but then we had to go, I wish we could visit some more places but there were other classes waiting for their turns but I had a lot of fun because we learnt a lot of information of where we visited. Someday I would like to use it again for my learning and when I’m bored and explore places I've never seen.

Causing Trouble

Touch, Touch, Touch

“YES touch again!” I shouted, it was Wednesday 28th of October, we were getting ready for the Eastern Zone Touch tournament. It was held at Dunkirk reserve where Rugby games are played. When we finished getting ready, I thought that the seniors would take a ride down to Dunkirk, but it turned out that we are the ones that’s looking after our walking group. My friend and I were angry. My friend Kevine was moaning all the way, she  said “ By the time we get there we will lose our energy and won’t be able to play the first game”.

When we got there we warmed up for our first game against Tamaki Primary, I was winger for my team, after 15 minutes of our game the score was 3-0 which means we won, it was a boring game because they were easy and we didn’t try at all. Then we had our break, we finally got to sit down and relax. It was the second game and we played Tamaki Primary again but this time it was the “A” team, they looked good, when the game started we got the first try, but it took us a long time. The hooter went, the final score was 5-2 it was a fun game because they were serious so we went serious as well. We had 3 games after our break against Panmure Bridge, Stone Fields and Glen Taylor and we won all 3 games but Glen Taylor was pretty hard.

It was break time, as we were eating, our coach told us we are in the final playing against Glen Taylor because they won all their games except for 1 game against us . I was one of the starting 7, the hooter went on and we started our game. It was pretty easy because they weren’t fit like we were. The siren went on and the final score was 3-0, I got 2 of the tries  and Asena got 1. We were the champions for the year 8 mixed teams for East Auckland. After our game we were supporting both of our year 6 teams who are playing each other for the finals, they were both champions.

It was time for Prize giving, after our school teams received  our prizes, the other schools were impressed with us because our year 5 team came 1st in their grade, our year 6 “A” team came 1st and our year 6 “B” team came 2nd and our year 8 mixed team came 1st as well.

My highlight of the day was communicating with my teammates and winning the Auckland Eastern Zone Touch tournament 2015. I am looking forward to 2016 Auckland Eastern Zone Touch tournament because I want to win the Touch tournament again and playing other schools around the area.

Coyote and Turtle

This week for literacy, we have been reading a book called The Coyote and the
Turtle. The Turtle wanted to see how it feels like being in the dessert so she did
what she wanted.  After a little while she was thirsty and was hot and she needed
water but there was no water around her. When she was stuck she cried out
loud and the Coyote that was nearby heard her and thought that the Turtle was
singing. The Coyote tried to make the turtle to teach him the song but she wouldn't.
So the Coyote told the turtle if she wouldn't teach him he'll throw her in the water,
but the turtle pretended to be scared and still said no, so the Coyote threw the turtle
in the water and just noticed that the turtle tricked him.

A time when something went missing

When I was a year 6, I received a new netbook, I got it for free. It cost $576, I could have wasted $576 on just one netbook. I was so happy, I couldn't asked for another one, my old netbook was slow and budget, my teacher said I couldn't use it anymore.

A year later I was a year 7, it was Monday morning , I was at school waiting for my class door to open. As I walked slowly to the netbook cupboard I was expecting my netbook to be on charge, I looked in to check if my netbook was on charged, suddenly my netbook was there but charger was missing. I didn't say a word to my teacher because I knew she will go on and on.

2 days later I was in my class waiting for the bell to go for home time. Finally the bell rang, as we were walking outside my teacher said “make sure you have charged your netbooks”, she looked at me and said “ I have been charging your netbook the last 2 days with someone’s charger”, my legs were shaking as if it was about to break. I told her that my charger went missing on Monday morning, then I remembered that some kids in my class takes their netbooks home, and told her about them, so she said she’ll check up with them.

On the next day she completely forgot, on the next day my friend told me she has a spare charger that no one uses. So on the next day she brought the spare charger. I was still looking for my charger but I don’t know where it was.

History of Superman

This Blog post is about the history of Superman of how he started. First Superman was supposed to be evil but he turned out to be a Super hero. He really had to adapt to earth as he was sent from his home planet because it was about to explode. Here is a Movie that explains how Superman adapts on earth. He was the first Superhero ever crated.

Term 4 PES Survivor Immersion Assembly

Point England School Immersion Assembly,Term 4 PES Survivor

On Monday 12th of October it was the first day of term 4. The Point England Students was attending the school immersion assembly. The topic for term 4 was PES Survivor, Teachers were dressed up in there topic.

It was boring all we did was just sit there and listen to the song that was playing, my neighbor was trying to talk to me but I ignored him. Then  finally the immersion assembly was about to start. Mr Burt was dressed up in a parrot, he was the Fiapoko parrot who lived in Pt Dingaling.

Mr Burt’s movie was about him bugging the kids when they're trying to have fun. Then the kids rang a special  man that killed the Fiapoko Bird and had roosted chicken. Then it was time for the teachers to explain what their team is learning about.  First it was Team 1 they were learning about Zoo animals and this term they will be going to the zoo. As for team 2 and team 3 they would be learning about dinosaurs. Team 4’s movie was about kids guessing what kind of animals was at the back of them.

Then it was our team, team 5, our teachers had a challenge, their challenge what to finish of the noodles by eating with chopsticks, Miss Clark won the competition because she's an Asian and all Asians eat with chopsticks all the time. Then at last it was Mr Jacobson, he played a movie, the movie was about Adaptation.Finally it was time for us to return to our classes.

Make a Wish

This term we had to create a presentation of charities. I chose to do Make a Wish
because it is easy to learn about. Make a Wish foundation started at 1980 at United
States of America. The founders were Scott Stahl, Frank Shankwitz, and Linda
Bergendahl Pauling.  This presentation shows what Make a Wish is about and
how it started. Go through the slides and you would be able to learn something
new.

Today in Maths we were learning about Integers.  I find Integers a little hard but
I get help from my Maths teacher and sometimes from my friends.

Last Wednesday my group, Ruapehu was reading an article called The Parapara detectives. This article was about birds founded caught in the Parapara tree. One day Bo and Rebecca went for a walk at Mary bank Reserve, they saw a bird dead in the parapara tree. Then on the next day they saw 2 other birds caught in the tree but one was alive and the other wasn't. The detectives knew what to do, they took the birds home and called the Vet. My group, Ruapehu had to create a DLO showing what we would do if we found a bird caught in a bird catcher tree. Here is a movie that I created showing what I would do. 

Here are some steps for you to do if you found a bird caught in a tree.

1.Get the bird down carefully

2.Put the bird in a box and cover it with a blanket

3.Then send it to the vet or the SPCA

How to Spend, Share and Save

Money, this is a great time to learn how to Spend, Share and Save.  It is good to learn now instead of growing up and asking what to do.

Let’s begin with spending money.  Here are some things children my age could possibly spend money on:Junk Food ,Shoes, Food, Clothes, Toys, Books,Video games, Hair cuts, Jewellery, Movies.

Now we move into what would be worth saving your money for.  Here are some examples of what I think are worthy of saving money for:Big Events, Phones, Shoes, Clothes, Laptop, Car, Sport Equipment, Games, Board Games, Christmas Presents.

Finally we come to explaining why people would share their money.  The first reason… Sharing your money is caring and kind. You can share your money with people that are homeless and  poor. Another reason to share your money may be...

If you share your money with someone you know they can trade you back on the day they get their pay day.  In spending, saving and sharing money it is important to set spending goals to guide yourself.  A goal helps you to Achieve  what you want to do in the future, believing yourself that you can do it, and to work harder making it work.When considering how you will spend, save and share your money it is important to decide what your going to save your money on and when to spend it and also sharing your money with others.

Spending Goals:Something that I would want to spend my money on are clothes, and Shoes. But Something that I am trying to save up for is an Iphone of my own.

This term our topic is called Trade and Enterprise, we , Team 5 at Point England School are learning about how to use your money wisely. Here is a movie that I created for our topic, it's about what would I do if I had $20 and $200. What I would do with $20 is I would save it in my piggy bank, as for $200 I would half it and give $100 to my parents and leave the other half for me. I hope you enjoy my movie, Thank you.

Receiving money There are plenty of ways to receive money here are some way you can receive money.

Fundraising is one of the reliable ways to receive money. There are a number of reasons you might fund raise.  You might be fundraising for going on a trip or helping people to build their homes after bad disasters. You can also fundraiser to help people that are sick and have cancer.

Working is one of the easiest ways to receive money. You can get paid every week. Working helps you buy what you want and helping your family pay the bills and other stuffs.

Scholarships, There are plenty of ways to receive money, one of the ways to receive money is  scholarships. You can get scholarships at the end of the year during prize-givings or earlier. You can get scholarships for leadership, Sports, and more. You can receive $100 up to $1000 or more from your scholarship.

Sports, sports is one of the easiest way to receive money. you can play in a representative team for your country in any kind of sports. If you do you get paid every week. Playing in a representative team is like working, but playing sports is much more easier and heaps of fun. You can travel around the world with your team, you can make new friend with other peoples from different places.  

Celebrations is one of the easiest way to earn money from your relatives or other people. It could be your birthday today and your uncles, aunts and family get invited. You can earn heaps of money from your family because it’s your birthday and they're celebrating it.

Conclusion In conclusion there are many ways in which you can receive money. You need to think about the most reliable, honest and regular way to receive money. Keeping in mind that the money you receive will help you and your family

  

Term 3 Immersion Assembly

It was the first day of school for Term 3, it was immersion assembly, teachers were dressed up ready to explain what they learning in their classes for Term 3. The Topic for Term 3 is Trade and Enterprise. Team 1 was first, they were looking how to trade money and using it well. Then it was Team 2, Team 2 are learning how to make ice creams and what ingredients is used to make different kind of flavored ice cream.

It was Team 3's turn, Mrs King had volunteers  up on the stage, she went through all of them and asked “What do you want to be if you grow up?” Mrs king wanted to be a surgeon, some of her volunteers wanted to sport players when they grow up. Team 4 was about Emotions, there was Sassy, Extra happy, and Calm. They were helping out how should bob use his money well, they are learning how to use money and how to get money. At last it was Team 5, Mr Wiseman and his fake wife that had hairy legs, was trying to save up money for what he needed, then Miss Peato, Miss Clark, and Mrs Moala came and tried to get Mr Wiseman and his fake wife to buy clothes and shoes for them but it was too Expensive and they can't afford to buy it, Mr Wiseman's fake wife was worried that Mr Wiseman will spend alot of money so Mr Wiseman said, "don't worry we are financially responsible".

Boy on Bike

Today in Literacy, My group was reading a story with Mr Buys, the story was called Boy on bike. There was a boy named Mac who wanted to help fund-raise money for St Johns so that they could buy some more ambulances. Mac's father asked Mac how he is going to raise money, Mac said he would ride his bike from the top of the North Island  to the bottom. At the beginning of his adventure his aim was to raise $5,000 but at the end of his adventure he raised over $7,000. Here is a poster that I made showing Mac riding on his bike during his adventure, here is a picture of the map and the orange line is where he rode is bike. He started from Cape Reinga down to Wellington.

Writing about Zeal Zone

Last week Friday afternoon we were learning about Tinkering Tools and Toys.We were planning to make changes of parts of our school that needed to be improved. First we got into our groups, and after we got into our groups we played charades. When we finished playing we went around our school and took photos of what we wanted to change.

When we got the picture that we needed we came back and worked on a presentation that helped us choose the idea that we wanted to improve. Our 3 final ideas was, putting Maori artworks on the Wharefono wall to decorate the Wharefono, Putting a toilet in the corner of the village so that the kids doesn't have to run around the school. Our 3 idea was to change the barks that on the playgrounds because little kid throw barks at each other and the bark can go into someone's eye.

When we finished we, talked in our group about which one we will do, so we all agreed on putting Maori patterns on the Wharefono walls to decorate it, we chose it because it was easy to do and we didn't need much things to work on it. So when we're in our Zeal Zone groups we are working on making Maori artworks.

Writing Recount

It was christmas day and we were going to Rotorua“Come on kids, get up and pack your stuff, we are going to Rotorua pools, it’s going to take us a long time to get there, Your cousin’s are here as well!!” my mum was shouting in the hallway. “It’s only 6:00 in the morning and we have to get up now” my sister moaned. But I was already finished packing my stuff “my togs, towel,  sunscreen, my own food, and 2 fizzy drinks of my own, now it’s time play outside before we go” I said. 1 hour later, we were still at home trying to put stuff in our car.

Finally, we were on our way, man my mum was right it is a long way to get to rotorua pools. All of my brothers and sisters were asleep but it was only me that wasn’t asleep. As they were sleeping I was going through their bags to see what they packed, in my sister bag was her laptop, “Yes” I whispered “I can play some games now” I said. I was playing minecraft for ages “oh man, the battery is nearly dead, I better put this back before I get Snapped” As I was putting her laptop away I found her phone, “Now I know what to do, Jam some music the whole way” I said to myself.

Finally we got there we first I went straight to the toilets and got changed. After I changed I came running out the toilets and did a big splash in the pool. “ Ah it’s nice and warm” I said. When we finished having a swim, we got changed and ate. As I was eating my  Chocolates and lollies that I packed I heard my sister say to my cousin “come lets listen to some music on my laptop” “Oh-uh” I said my sister opened up the lid and the laptop was dead. “What I was charging it the whole time at home” she screamed. Then she turned on her phone and it was only 1 percent left “what it can’t be”  Then it was time for us to eat, but I was already full.Then it was time for us to go home.

It was the best day of my life, spending time with my family, making my sister have a good christmas day. Next year I think it would be better and know it will be my brothers turn to have an awesome christmas day because I know what they are going to pack. What I liked on that day was that I never got snapped from anyone. What an amazing day.

The Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels

During World War 2, soldiers from Australia went to World War 2 at 1939. At 1945 World War 2 ended, some soldiers from Australia ended up in Papua New Guinea, some were wounded and some weren’t.

People in Papua New Guinea found some soldier in the forest wounded and hurt so they helped them. It was awkward to the soldiers because they never knew that they would be saved by the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels. When the soldiers got healed they went back to Australia.

Triangle Addition

In my Numeracy class we had to do our Triangle Addition. In the squares we have to add up numbers that adds 3.518. I enjoyed working on this activity because when I get stuck, my friends can help me get it right.

Today in maths we did a fourth Alphabet Multiplication. It was our last Alphabet Multiplication for the term. In maths this is my favourite thing to do because it is easy but sometimes hard because the long words are the hard ones.

POLYFEST 2015!!!

At Point England School, the year 7&8 students were getting ready for Polyfest. It was the first time that the Point England students are going to the Polyfest. On the bus Melenoa, Brooklyn, Paige and I was playing  Chinese Whisper, Melenoa and I was waiting for the bus to stop on red light so that we can put our heads on the windows and the windows will shake. 

When we arrived at the Polyfest at Manukau, there were 4 other intermediate schools there. We were lined up  so that we can get the instructions. After we got the instructions  we went to our first station which is the Glow bug. We got a 4 hour minute timer and yellow lollie pops. We went to 4 other stations. My favourite station was  the flava, I liked it because we played a game and what we had to do is get into group numbers that the girl says. After that we got into 5 groups and we had to take selfies.


After we visited the 6 stations we got a goodie bag each, in the goodie bag the there were glasses, hacky sack ball, a cap, water bottle, fan, and the sunblock. Then we had a chance to go to other stations. I liked Flava Niu because we got heaps of bands, free crackers and coconut cream. Then we went to visit the Maori stage. Then it was time for us to go back to school. I can't wait for 2016 because we are going to Polyfest again next year.
