Hiwi the Kiwi

Image result for hiwi the kiwiThis is a piece of writing that I have completed about some visitors that has been fishing in their whole life. Read to find out what I have been through and learnt about fishes and maybe you can learn something as well.

Yesterday morning we had visitors from the far north. They work for the Hiwi the Kiwi company, where they travel around New Zealand and teach young kids about fishing. Well this time they came to Point England School and taught us heaps of things about fish and birds. We also sang songs about kai moana (sea food) and had heaps of quiz questions.

The part I mostly  enjoyed learning about was fishes. I learnt that... when we catch a fish from the sea water, we have to clean it with salt water because if we don’t it will taste yuck after it’s cooked. Also when we catch a fish from the sea water, hold it with a wet towel or else it’s scales will come off and will get sick if was put back in water. I also learnt that in New Zealand it’s illegal that we are not allowed to catch and take fish that is measured under 30cm long. This is because the baby fish needs to get bigger and if they keep taking baby fish there, won’t be fish for everyone to catch. If we do we will get fined. Also we need to take a water gun to scare away birds that are near as well.

When fishing, we have to make sure that we take, life jackets in case something bad happens while fishing. Cooler for the ice to make sure that the fish stays cool when the it is caught. Ruler for the fish to be measured if it’s alright to take home. Mike made a suggestion that if someone on the boat catches a trophy fish, they’ll have to put it back in the water so it can breath(in case it has babies).  I really enjoyed this show because it has taught me heaps of things that I don’t know and maybe I can use it when I go fishing in the future. Thanks to Mike and Kris from Hiwi the Kiwi for coming in and share what they know about fishing.
