2016 Reflection

 Year 8 2016 farewell movie
What a year I've had! 2016 was my last year at Point England School before I move on to college. Anyways I was glad to enjoy every step or part of the year, I wouldn't forget the wonderful moments I had. Throughout the year, the teachers and us students got along with each other so well that formed a big family. In the beginning of the year, Mrs Tele'a said that we are a big family and so it was. This made myself think that team 5 was my second home. Yes, 2016 was like a long bumpy ride on a roller coaster. There were times we all enjoyed as well as times where everything goes down. But everything turned out good.

I learnt a lot of new things from my teachers this year. Not only we learnt about school work but we also learnt how to be a team and be the best we can be. One of our saying's is "TEAM". TEAM is a short quote or saying of "Together Everyone Achieves More". So when one person mucks up, our teachers say those simple words to us, to remind us that we are all in 1 team or 1 family. This was a quote that one of our teachers found on google and thought it would match our team. This quote was said in the beginning of the year right to the end.

In the beginning of the year, I never wanted to come to school because most of my friends were off to college. But then everything changed, I would always get ready for another fun day of school. When I arrive at school, my day starts of with hugs, handshakes, and greetings from my close friends. That was one thing I really appreciated from my friends. Anyways, every morning we have a year 7 & 8 assembly in the senior block known as the "street" or the "senior common room". This is where we do our karakia/mihi and himene to prepare for a great learning day.

Year 8 Leadership Camp
As the year went past I'd say everything were my highlights because I felt like I was included in everything I participated in. But if I had to choose 4 highlights, I'd probably choose our year 8 leadership camp,  our riverside camp, my sorority netball highlights, and when the year 7's left off to Rainbows End.
Friends @ Riverside camp

Why those highlights you may ask? Well the year 8 leadership camp was a fun learning camp. We learnt about team work, obviously leadership, and more. Also all the year 8's had

the opportunity to get along with each other which was pretty cool to see. Our riverside camp was also fun but this time we learnt about Christianity. We had heaps of fun activities such as foam fight and many more. This was the time where I got to spend days with my old friends since year 3. I also made new friends with the leaders which was awesome.   It was the best holiday camp I've attended so far.

Sorority with Sky City Mystics

Netball sorority highlights. Our Sorority netball team has been together for 3-4 years. 2 players has been changed every year but 7 (including myself) has been together. This year we entered a competition and won overall. Our prize was pretty big, meeting the sky city mystics (our team dream), a night at the sky city hotel, watching a game of the mystics and dinner at Andy's burgers where we met the sky city warriors. It was a lot of fun for us all. It was also a chance for us to go to places where we've never been which was quite cool. #Foreverasororitymember

2016 Year 8's combined
Lastly, my most memorable moment was when the year 7's left of to Rainbows End with the year 8's remained. This was a happy time for us year 8's because we hardly spent time together since the year 8 camp. I enjoyed the day with the year 8's before we split of to different colleges. Most of the year 8's will be attending Tamaki College like myself. Otherwise the other year 8's will be attending Auckland Girls Grammar, Wesley College, St Paul's and many other wonderful colleges.

Thank you from Taunese 2016
The last day of school came by and I was sad. My time here at Point England School has come to an end. It was a great experience to be around such amazing, intelligent students and staff.  I just want to thank all the teachers that taught me throughout my journey here at this school. Thank you  for being there for me and my friends. Thank you for teaching me everything that I am able to do now. I will take everything and show it in college and hopefully I'll make you proud where ever I go. I will treasure and keep every single memory I had here. THANK YOU POINT ENGLAND SCHOOL FOR EVERYTHING!!!

2k16 senior prizegiving

Year 7 & 8 Sports Award Squad
“Let the senior prize giving begin!!” Mr Burt said with enthusiasm. It was the Point England School senior prize giving for 2016. The parents and families gathered around to support their child receiving an award. Or some supporting their child's year item. My family was also there. The kapa haka finished their emotional item so it was time for awards to be given out. First was year 5 & 6 class awards, then it was the year 5’s item. I think the year 5 item was cool because everyone moved together and their moves matched the song that was playing.

It was time for the team 4 sports award which was one of the highlights I enjoyed. 5 of the team 4 students had 2 or 3 awards with trophies included. When it was time for the sportswoman and sportsman nominees movie, I thought it was a close match because the nominees were all good. But for the sportswoman, Faioso was the overall winner. For sportsman, Javan was the winner. It was time for the year 6 item. There item was the same as the year 5 item. I think it was better than our item.

It was time for the team 5 class awards. “For 100% attendance Sulieti Rautiti” “WOOHOOOOO SHOT SULI !!!!!” My friends and I yelled. We were so happy for Sulieti so we screamed out loud. As the classes went by, my friends and I were the loudest audience whenever our mates names are called out. “For citizenship, Promiseland Ulipa” Once again we yelled our heads off. Then… “For best effort, Taunese Leitufia” As I got up, I felt proud to receive the best effort award because all year I was putting 110% effort in everything I participated in. But before I could get to Mrs Tele’a to receive a lolly-lei, I heard Mr Burt say “for 100% attendance, Taunese Leitufia and Shelford Reihana”. I was getting 2 class awards which was a lot of improvement for myself. Because I always get sports awards. At the end I was even happy to stand with some of my close friends on the stage with the lights shining on us.

Myself receiving Intermediate female MVP rugby award
“Let’s give it up for the year 7 item” Mr Burt announced. “LET’S GO LANI!!!” I shouted as they made their way up on the stage. They were dancing to DJ bravo Champion. There item was also better than ours but I think team 4 was better. It was the last bunch of awards which was the year 7 & 8 sport awards. “Most valuable player Intermediate female....Taunese Leitufia” I received a small trophy that had my name and a big trophy which had the names of previous girls that received the award. Temauri was the winner for sportsmen and Elizabeth U was the winner for sportswoman which I thought she deserved well.

It was a long award session. At the end I my hands were full with trophies and awards. Mr Burt called up Mrs Moore who was the deputy principal for Tamaki College just down the road. They were announcing the Manaiakalani school scholarship awards. There were only 5 scholarships and they were Marilyn, Elizabeth U, Promise, Elizabeth G, and myself. My family was proud of me. It was the last performance of the night and that was us the year 8's. It was our last prize giving dance so my friends and I made the most of it. At the end we sang our school song "strive to succeed".

My total awards

Receiving
heaps of awards was awesome for me on my last year. I received best effort(class award), 100% attendance(class award), MVP female rugby player, netball team spirit, MVP female cricket, House captain, and Manaiakalani scholarship.

I'd just like to thank Mrs Tele'a for always being there for me during my learning. I think I wouldn't get any class awards if it wasn't for you helping me with my learning. Thank you Miss Va'afusuaga for another amazing year of sports and also to my coaches for helping me be active at my sport AND my learning. I never thought I'll get this much awards if it wasn't for you guys so thank you. To Point England School students and staff, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a house captain. I was able to show leadership around the school. It was useful because I received a scholarship and I think I'm ready to show leadership at college as well. Lastly I'd like to thank my family for always having my back during my schooling and sports. I hope I made you guys proud!

Film Festival @ PES

As we were seated in the hall, we were waiting for the Point England School film festival to begin. This is where everyone could get the chance to see movies that they haven't seen at the Tamaki cluster film festival. The film festival has started. Up first was room 3, this was our classes movie. It was about the messages we always hear elders say at home. Well our movie is about us delivering our love for they have loved us in our lives. As the film festival went by, I pretty much enjoyed all the movies but the movie I mostly enjoyed was the BMG (Big Manaiakalani Giant). The camera shots was professionally done and the animation of the giant looked real. I also like the way the BMG delivered a message to the students saying make use of your digital learning. This film was like a trailer movie. My friends and I thought it was a real good movie to present at events like movies in the park. Anyways I was happy to see movies improve over the years. This year was my last year making film festival movies in Point England School before I move off to college. I was glad to be part of a school that had digital devices to use for there learning.

Hamilton Girls High School

Photo with the Hamilton Girls High School
Terina Te Tamaki(far left)

When the Variety Christmas party had finished, families started to make their way home. Well my 2 friends Lani, Ashley and myself were still playing on the obstacle bouncy castle. Just on the field outside of the school library and office. My friends and I went to get a drink where we saw tall teenage girls in our school library. Then I remembered that they were from Hamilton Girls High School. Miss Va'afusuaga told us they were staying over for the weekend so they can compete in the New Zealand Rugby 7's tournament held at Sacred Heart College.

Terina Te Tamaki
Silver Medal
My friends and I stopped by and introduced our selves to the aggressive looking players. We made friends with the team, but I only remember Lina because the other players names were too hard to remember and pronounce. They said they won there last 2 games and they will be playing Southern Cross Campus at 4:05pm. The good news was that Miss Va'afusuaga was taking us to watch some games including there game. Anyways Lina introduced her friend Terina who I saw somewhere but couldn't remember. But sadly she left us quickly. A while later Terina came back holding a silver medal with an angel on it. It seemed familiar to my eyes. But when I took a closer look I was shocked to see a Rio Olympic silver medal. Then again I finally noticed that it was Terina Te Tamaki who played for the New Zealand women 7's that came 2nd in Rio Olympics.

My friends and I couldn't believe that we were holding an Olympic medal because we have been learning a lot about the Olympics. We didn't want to leave but we had to do some work before we leave. The team seemed happy to meet us. We were overwhelmed so we told we would be back for a photo. As we were helping out we couldn't stop thinking about the silver medal and the friendly team. Before we left to Sacred Heart College we were forced by one of the player to go inside the library. We didn't want to because they looked scary. Lani and Ashley pushed me in the library first so they can behind my back. I than had the courage to say a few words about there up coming game and wished them luck. Lani and Ashley just wished them luck.

After watching 2 games of the boys grade, it was the last game which was Hamilton Girls High School playing against Southern Cross Campus. We cheered on the Hamilton Girls as they entered the field. As the game went through, Southern Cross was winning by 1 try. The final hooter went and Southern Cross won the game but it wasn't the end for Hamilton Girls because there having a game the next day. Ashley, Lani and myself wanted this to be the best memory so we went down and took photos with the team. Terina gave me her medal to wear and it felt nice.

Meeting Terina Te Tamaki was one of the best highlights of my life. She has helped me choose what I want to become in the future and that would be a rugby player. She inspired me to continue playing rugby and that one day I would be in her shoes playing for Black ferns or the New Zealand women rugby 7's. Thank you Hamilton Girls High School for being so friendly and for visiting our school. Also thank you Terina for being an inspirational person to my life and encouraging me to play rugby. THANK YOU!!!!

Earthquake Letter

Image result for 7.5 earthquake in NZTo the people who has been affected by the earthquake,
I am deeply sorry about the terrible earthquake that's come your way. I am also sorry about what you have been through with your families. I hope you are safe and happy together even though you have suffered so much. I know you can get through this accident if you stick together and believe in yourselves that you can live.

I couldn't believe that there have been 800 aftershocks! After Monday where there was a 7.5 quake in North Canterbury. I don't know what it's like but I do know how it feels when your in danger with your family. I hope you found somewhere safe to stay after your houses has been badly wrecked. I noticed that this earthquake was more mighty then the recent 6.3 quake in Christchurch 2011. I think that this earthquake magnitude must be the biggest quake that has ever happened in New Zealand history. I am sad to hear that 2 people has sorrowfully died during the earthquake.

Looking at all the wrecked houses and broken roads make me sad for those people who has lost there homes and injured on the street. I understand that food and water are low but once the accident is over you'll be back to normal. Don't worry and have faith everything will be back to normal because I know that it will be back to normal.

Lastly don't think that your on your own suffering this disaster because people around New Zealand are feeling your pain. You are all going to be blessed in the prayers that have been said by people around New Zealand and the world. I really care about what your going through right now because I know it's painful. But don't worry and be strong because God will be with you the whole way. God Bless :)

Touch girls come 3rd in Auckland

Before it was the Auckland Championship for touch, we had a touch eastern zone tournament where schools from east Auckland come together and compete for the 3 titles. Girls grade, Boys grade and mixed grade. In the finals, all our 3 teams in all 3 grades made it in the finals. Where the boys played Kings school, mixed team played Bailey Road school, and us girls played Silvia park for the finals. At the end the boys and mixed team lost where us girls won 3-2. It was the first time in history that a girls touch team from Point England made it to a Auckland Championship tournament. The AAIMS tournament was in 2 weeks so we had time to train and learn fast moves. It was sad for us because on the day that the tournament was on, our coach was going on a trip so we had Tasesa who was the boys coach.

In two weeks time the day we were preparing for finally came. The tournament was held in Papakura at Bruce Pulman Park. It was raining hard and it was also cold for us to play in - but our coach still said it was on. Some of my team mates were frightened but the rest were happy to play in the rain. When we arrived we quickly warmed up and practiced our moves once more. We were in pool B. It was our very first game against North Cross. It was a challenging game, it was nill all after the half time but then in the 2nd half, North Cross cross the try line twice where we didn't at all. At the end we lost but our manager said they always win the competition so we gave them a good run on the field. We had two more games left. Our goal was to win 2 games to go to the semi-finals.

So we played our hardest in the next two games. Our second game was against Waikowhai and we won. Then we play Helensville school and drew 0-0 all. But luckily they drew with Waikowhai who we beat. After lunch our coach announced that we will be playing Henderson School who is coming first in pool A and haven't lost a game. It was a very difficult game. It was half-time and it was 1-0 to Henderson School. The hooter went and the second half started. Henderson got 3 tries with a run away when we had 2 tries behind. Then suddenly Liz got a try set up at Henderson's try line by myself. The hooter went and everyone on the side from our team jumped and shouted with joy because it was 3-3 all and we went to drop offs. There were 5 on, Liz, Rosalina, Lani, Angelica, and myself. 1 minute later it was drop off, I was sent off believing my friends can finish the game.

Pressure were on us when Henderson was at there try line. Then there it was, Lani and Angelica left a gap where a girl from Henderson dived with risky. Henderson tried 5 minutes after the hooter went. My team mates on the field cried because they thought they let our team down by missing a touch. Our coach said heads up because that was the best touch game he's ever seen us play. We congratulated Henderson with their win, while they thanked us for a wonderful game. We were still sad but we weren't out of the game, we had another game for 3rd place. We played Papatoetoe and won 3-0 coming 3rd in Auckland for girls touch.

It was one of the best moments of my life at Point England School. I'd just like to thank Mr Somerville for coaching us in the beginning where we won the eastern zone. Also just like Tasesa and Izac for preparing us till the tournament. Also thank you Miss Va'afusuaga for always being there for us when we needed something and for driving us all the way to Papakura for our tournament. Thank you teachers and parents for encouraging us to try our best no matter what. Last of all thank you girls for being in the team and working together to get as far. If it wasn't for these people we wouldn't have came third in Auckland. THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO HELPED US!!!

Fair testing preserving water

This is our reading task for this week. We are learning to synthesis information
from the multiple sources. We were given a task to summarize 2 pieces the
texts with a partner. I chose to work on myself so I don't have to rely on others
to the work.

FAREWELL MISS CLARK!!!!

Dear Miss Clark,

I'd just like to say thank you for everything that you have done for me in the past 2 years. Last year you were a bit harsh on me during maths because I was hanging out with the wrong people-who stops me from learning. Well I am in your maths class again this year and I really enjoyed hanging out, laughing and making funny jokes with you. If it wasn't for you as my maths teacher, I wouldn't have known the right strategies that I needed in the stage that you helped me get to. Which is STAGE 8.!!  I will miss watching you eat peanut butter- right in my face. Asking if was alright when I was quiet. I will miss the times you make me jealous by eating extra bubble when I needed it. I will miss your bunny smile and listening to you try out our friends language-which is different to how you speak. I was really shocked when I saw you jump the high jump because I didn't really see physical in you. It's going to be different without you as my maths teacher now because you won't be there eating bubble gums on your table. Also there won't be another teacher like you that know how I act and learn from other students. Good luck at your new job and always remember that our team 5 doors are always open for you to come in and visit. I will be happy to see you again on prize-giving night and our year 8 graduation. I love you and I will miss you heaps!!

Worm Juice Experiment

Today in class we learnt and did the experiment called the Worm Juice. In this
presentation it has a lot to relate to this interesting experiment I did with my class.
I learnt that Sodium Alginate and Calcium Chloride mixed together will make
worm lines. It will look fun and feel a but yucky! But I really enjoyed exploring
this fun experiment.

Ch ch ch ch changes animation

This term's topic is called Ch ch ch ch changes. As part of the topic team 5 had to create an animation
about 1 of the experience we did. I chose to do the coke and mentos experiment because it was fun and I really enjoyed the reaction. Here is an animation with a voice over by myself explaining what happened. Thanks to my friend Elizabeth G for helping me complete my movie, THANK YOU!!

Rust Task

Fast Rust Task
Rust

Walt: Walt: Synthesise information from multiple sources.
Success Criteria: I can make links between the multiple resources I access.
Task: Learning wh
Work on this Doc together with a partner.

What 3 ingredients are needed for rust to occur.
Oxygen from the air (O2)
Water (H2O)
Iron`

Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)

To make an iron or steel rust you will need oxygen, water and iron/steel to make it rust. Oxygen from air mixes with water. The iron surface of the nail reacts with the oxygen mixed in the water. It then forms iron oxide. Iron oxide reacts with water. It forms hydrated iron oxide, the red stuff we call rust. This process continues until it’s been eaten up.

How could you prevent something from rusting?
If a chain on a bicycle rust, putting on oil will make the bike work better and will protect the chain from rusting again.

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you’ve learned from this reading.
Something new I’ve learnt about was that iron, water, and oxygen makes iron rust. But using iron, water, and salt will make iron rust even faster. Using Zinc or paint to protect a iron will not make the iron rust.
This is last weeks reading task of how steel rust.

Equilateral Triangle

As part of my maths task, I had to create a google drawing showing what a shape
means. I chose to do Equilateral Triangle because the details are easy to explain
and is easy for the year 4's to learn.

Think board wk 6

This is my fourth think board for week 4. Our focus is subtracting decimals using

States of Matter

This is my reading task presentation I created showing what states of matter means.

Variable Changes

This is our groups reading task for last week and this week. We are learning about fair test science project. Looking at keeping thing the same while it's matters are changing. These are a few task I have filled showing what I think.
Science Investigation
Fair Testing
Fill out the following table to help you explain the Growing in the dark: Plants and light experiment

Aim - what are you trying to find out?
  • Do plants need light to grow?

Hypothesis - what do you think your results will be?
  • The plant in the sun will grow with good health, and the plant in the cupboard will grow but not with full pieces
Independent Variable - what variable will you change?
  • I will have both plants have sunlight so it can grow healthily.
Dependent Variable - what variable will you measure?
  • The variable I will measure is the height of the plant
Controlled Variable - what variables will you keep the same?
  • The same type of seeds, the type of soil, and the same amount of water used for the plants

The students of Room 4 wanted to find out what colour of bird feeders birds preferred. FIll our the table below thinking of which variables you would make independent, dependent and controlled.

Aim - what are you trying to find out?
  • To find out what colour of bird feeders with the birds prefer?
Hypothesis - what do you think your results will be?
  • From all the feeders, the birds will mostly prefer eating from the red feeder
Independent Variable - what variable will you change?
  • I would change the food and also the colour
Dependent Variable - what variable will you measure?
  • Measuring how many visits the colour feeders get . After 5 days the colour feeder with the most visits was red
Controlled Variable - what variables will you keep the same?
  • The colour that the birds mostly prefer. The amount of the food that the bird normally get feeded

The Isolated Tree

Before we move on to our real writing test, we had a practice of what a real writing test would turn out to be. We had a picture chosen by our teacher and we had to write a narrative under 40min. This is my narrative called The isolated tree. We had 3 different kinds of sentences in our writing. In pink is complex, orange is compound, and blue is a simple sentence. My normal writing is on the bottom. Please read and leave a comment to help out with my writing. Thank You!

The isolated tree
While Chris was alive, he was hated by many people. This was because he took out all competitions in the town of Pollygan. At the age of 39 Chris passed away from a terrible accident. This was good news to people who hated Chris, but was bad news for his siblings. Chris was buried close to a farm. Where his grandfather lived 19 year ago until he passed. People of Pollygon made up a lie to stay away from the grave. Months passed by, the grave was lonely at all times. Then…. one night a spell fell upon the grave and from there a tree grew. No one had seen this new plant.  But a girl named Christine who would always walk by to go school and back home. 2 months later the tree grew bigger and it was also alive. Chris was back - but not in the way he appreciated.

Chris finally got used to his body. He was able to talk but couldn’t eat. Chris was a powerful tree, he faced windy and stormy days. Everything around him were wrecked but he was the only tree standing without losing any parts - only leaves. Chris made friends but with animals like birds, squirrels, possums and insects. He cared so much for them that he wouldn’t let anything dangerous happen to him. His friends found happiness and respected him. One day Christine was walking home from school. She was exhausted and need a break from the heating sun. The lonely tree near the farm was the only shelter she could find. As she walking near the tree, she saw that the tree had a face shape. But she didn’t care because she was desperate for shelter.  Then she sat down and enjoyed the view. “How are you doing sweet girl?”. She heard someone talking, she looked up and saw the mouth of the tree moving, it was talking to her.

Christine was frightened and didn’t know what to do. Except she screamed her head off as she was running towards her house, not even leaving a chance to respond back. “ I’ll never make any human friends” Chris told himself. Christine ran home and told her parents about what she’d seen. On that day Christine’s parents told the council about the dangerous tree. The council manager announced by the next week, the tree would be cut down. The frightened family thought it was a good idea because the tree will effect other people as well. 2 days before the tree was cut down, Christine was walking home all alone in the dark chilly night. Where 2 unknown guys tried to attack her from behind. Christine had nowhere to run except the dangerous tree. Chris saw that Christine was running and screaming towards him for help. But Chris didn’t know what to do, she was scared of him on the day they met. Then Chris saw 2 mens running after Christine. He noticed that Christine was running to him for help. Christine went and hid behind Chris where it was pitch black and hard for the kidnappers to see. The kidnappers stood right under the tree, not knowing that Chris the tree was alive. “OIII!!”Chris said, “who, who's there” one kidnapper said in a shaky voice. “BOOO!!!” Chris yelled. The 2 kidnappers ran like they’ve never ran before. Christine saw that the kidnappers were gone, so she walked out from pitch black. “Are you alright little girl?”, Chris asked in his gentle voice. “Why did you save me, I thought you were a dangerous tree” Christine replied. Chris didn’t want to answer her question “My name is Chris, I’m from Pollygon. I died from an accident at the age of 39, people in Pollygon didn’t like me much so they buried me here.” Chris explained “Years ago, a spell fell on my grave and I grew as a tree. What’s your name?” Chris asked. “My name is Christine, How sad of those people to hate you” Chris looked at the sky getting darker “Christine you better go home now before your parents get worried”. Christine thanked Chris and ran home.

Christine ran home and told her parents that she was saved from the dangerous tree. After Christine's long story, her parents went and told the council that their child has been saved from the dangerous tree. The council said that they wouldn’t cut down the tree. Christine was very happy. Everyday when school was finished, Christine would always hang out with Chris. She also made friends with the animals. Chris was happy he had a new friend.
